Daddy

My dad is an amazing guy. I'm not just saying that because I'm his daughter. I'm saying it because it's the truth. He has a servants heart and continuously gives of himself. Ask anyone who knows him. They will agree.
Daddy recently had an opportunity cross his desk to take a "job" in Haiti operating heavy equipment and demolishing uninhabitable buildings. They then separate the metal and concrete to "make" roads to towns who have been isolated from civilization due to the horrible earthquakes. He jumped on the opportunity. God showed him a need and Daddy jumped. I love it. I love the entire story of why and how he has chosen to leave us for 3 months to work for pennies in a plague and war infested country.
There is a possibility that he would be leaving for a total of 15 months. If Salvation Purse likes Daddy and the work he does, they will more than likely offer him an additional 12 month contract, which Daddy would probably accept. I'm going to miss him, but I'm proud of him and respect his decision to give back to others, so I support and praise his efforts.

I love you Daddy and I pray that your trip is safe and rewarding. I pray that you will leave your footprints on roads less travelled. I pray that you will impress others with your humor, generosity and love while you visit this sad depressing country. I pray that you will find simplicity and love in the eyes of the nation and they will welcome you with open arms. Have a fantastic trip!

Yummy Recipe

I've been following Lil Runner's Blog and am dying to try this recipe! Yum! It has to be delicious and if it helps my children and husband eat veggies? I'm all about it!

Butternut Squash Quinoa Doughnuts

BUTTERNUT SQUASH QUINOA DOUGHNUTS
This was adapted from the banana quinoa muffins.

2/3 c quinoa flour (toasted ground quinoa)
1/2 c oatmeal
1 c whole wheat flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 to 3/4 c butternut squash
2 T maple syrup (might want to add more)
2 T coconut oil
1 T flaxseed (ground)
1/2 to 3/4 c almond milk
1 tsp vanilla

Topping
1-2 T Coconut oil
1-2 T Cinnamon
1-2 T Sugar

Mix the flours, oatmeal, powder, soda and cinnamon in a large bowl. In a smaller bowl, add the squash, maple syrup, coconut oil, flax, almond milk (start with 1/2 c) and vanilla. Microwave 20-30 seconds and let sit about 5 minutes. Add the wet to the dry. If the mixture is too dry, add more milk and/or squash. Bake at 325 for 13-15 minutes till set.

Dip one side into coconut oil then cinnamon sugar. Let cool. These aren't too sweet so the topping makes them!

Slime!

My friend, Becky, found a slime recipe here. I jumped all over the opportunity to try it and it is supplying endless fun and happy giggles from my kitchen as I type. Super easy to make (Becky's 2 year old made it, with help of course) and really cheap!

You want me to play w/ water? OOOOOOkkkk! Can do!
Wait a minute....Mr Miles wasn't so sure about the clumps suddenly forming in the water.

Chloe, "take a picture of my slime!"
Tyler loves putting slime on his nose, while Paige prefers to show it off in a ball.

Roling it out....better than playdough!

Smacking it down!

Ewwwwww a snake!

A Few Fabulous Photos

Just adding a few photos of my little family. Life is fabulous and God is so good to us.

Tyler loves hats, puzzles, super heroes and garage sales. He's a little man after my own heart!

Little Liam is determined to get comfy in his swing.

Randy and Randi Keira at a really cool little restaurant, True Grit, in Ridgway, Colorado. The original movie filmed quite a few scenes there.

Look at me! I'm squirmy!

Keira loved being a flower girl at her Auntie Joanna's wedding.

Tyler was all grins in his little tux walking down the isle as one of the ring bearers.

I can't believe this uploaded sideways, but I love the photo so it's staying. Liam is always holding his hands in front of him. We call him a "little Buddha".

Camping in Ridgway, Colorado. One of my favorite places. Full of special memories for me.

Again. Not sure why this uploaded sideways, but this is an early morning shot down at Memorial Park. We enjoyed the hot air balloon festival and some glazed doughnuts.

Liam Laughing

The best sound in the world is your little one laughing from his/her gut. :)

Gym, Jewlry and Wedding

It has been a crazy week. I'm not sure where July and August have gone? This past week my cousin, Joanna, married her best friend. Yeah for Joanna and James! She found herself a keeper. :) It had to be one of the prettiest weddings I've attended. Keira and Tyler even played a part--flower girl and ring bearer. They had a blast and looked so sharp!
Randy has started making jewlry. He has a serious gift! Check out his work on Etsy under people "DeepRootsCO".  He has a promo code out there to get 25% off too! He even made me a wedding band that I've fallen in love with bc of it's lightness and super cool look.
This week has found me back at the gym. Boy oh boy am I out of it! I really want to run a marathon next summer, so I need to get into gear. Thinking about starting w/ the 5K at Garden of the Gods for Breast Cancer. We'll see. I feel completely week and am mentally discouraged because of how far I have fallen behind in fitness. Blah!

Recycled Band Aid

Poor Liam had his 2 month old shots yesterday. He was not a happy camper. The nurse went as far to say, " Wow, I haven't had one get this angry for quite a while!" His screaming got so bad later in the day, that I had to call my mom at work and ask her to rush to the store, buy some infant Advil and infant Tylenol and bring it home. After 3 hours of screaming his head off and a dose of Advil the crying finally eased. He ate a total of 4 times yesterday and slept the rest of the time away. *sigh* I hate vaccinations!

On another note, let me explain the title of this blog entry. Liam had his vaccinations and they put 3 band aids on his little chubby legs. They just happened to be "Captain America" band aids. Tyler went crazy over them.
He asked me first thing this morning, "Mama, when Liam's done using his band aid can I wear it?"
Of course, I just laughed and told him that the sticky side wouldn't work anymore and that he probably wouldn't want them because they had baby blood on them. Oh, the things children say!
